The Interlink Foundation was founded by members of the Moushabeck family, descendants of a long line of poets, thinkers, and creatives from the Katamon neighborhood in Al Quds (Jerusalem).
After being forcibly displaced from Palestine during the 1948 Nakba and later during the Lebanese Civil War, the family relocated to Brooklyn, New York, where they encountered widespread stereotyping and misrepresentation—or total absence—of Palestinian culture. In response, Michel and Ruth Moushabeck founded Interlink Publishing in 1987, a mission-driven independent press dedicated to bridging cultural divides and introducing authentic voices from the Middle East and Global Majority to American readers.
Today, nearly forty years later, Interlink remains family-owned. It is the leading U.S. publisher of books from the SWANA (Southwest Asia and North Africa) region and the only Palestinian-owned publishing house in the U.S. With over 1,000 active titles spanning literature, history, current affairs, art, cooking, and children’s books, Interlink has earned numerous accolades—including James Beard Awards and the Arab American Book Award—for its commitment to platforming Arab heritage, Palestinian history, and underrepresented global voices.
In response to the urgent challenges described above, and in the context of an increasingly hostile publishing landscape, the Moushabeck family launched the Interlink Foundation in 2024. As a 501c3 nonprofit, we are building on Interlink’s legacy, expanding its work through publishing, education, and community-building, all with the goal of amplifying Arab voices and ensuring diverse, essential stories continue to reach readers worldwide.
